The laser that reads the blu-ray is probably not working.

First, try upgrading to the latest Firmware. Currently it is 1.90. next, make sure that your settings are correct. Also make sure that the region for the blu-ray disc matches the PS3 region. If you bought the PS3 in America, make sure the blu-ray is an American Blu-ray disc. If the regions don’t match for both the console and the disc, then they won’t work together. Make sure that all playback options are enabled in System Settings. You also have to have 1080p output enabled. This is a high definition setting that will not work without a High Definition TV and an HDMI cable. Unfortunately, you can’t play a blu-ray without these components. If none of that helps, then you might want to call Sony to make sure that your PS3 is functioning properly.
I hope that you get this to work and I hope that I helped.
